Assisi - Day 3

We arrived in Assisi in the late afternoon, and found the lovely Hotel Ideale right at Piazza Mateotti, at the top of the hill. We checked in and immediately set out on foot to explore Assisi and watch the sunset. This turned out to be an enchanted time to arrive: all the day tourists had left, and we shared Assisi only with a few scattered locals. We walked and walked, wandering up staircases and down long winding paths.

We enjoyed a late dinner and were the only ones in the restaurant until about 9:30, when the place started filling up. We found that English was much less prevalent among the restaurant and hotel staff than in Venice, and it was fun to speak to them in Italian.
