San Gimignano - Day 6

San Gimignano, a beautiful hill town in Tuscany, has 14 towers still standing from medieval times. We arrived and were greeted by Francesco, the son of the hotel owner, who drove us from the parking lot to the hotel, through narrow streets that we were happy not to navigate.

After checking in, we wandered into a panini shop and bought delicious picnic supplies for a wonderful picnic in the Rocca e Parco di Montestaffoli, a park and olive grove on top of the hill and within a 14th century fortress.

After lunch, we meandered through the streets, experiencing San Gimignano.

wine, or cappuccino??? hmmm ... I'll just have both!

We climbed the main tower, Torre Grossa, and enjoyed some spectacular views of SG and the Tuscan countryside.

We walked around San Gimignano for hours, enjoying the beautiful scenery.

Bryant taking a 6:00 pm power nap outside the Church of Sant'Agostino.

Enjoying our favorite dinner of Italy, at Locanda di Sant'Agostino. We dined al fresco, and Bryant had tagliatelle con pesto alla genovesa, and I had penne con pomodoro e mozzarella. Both were accompanied by a delicious red wine and followed by tiramisu. It was perfect.

Bryant's amazing sense of direction was a real asset in these tiny hill towns. He could always manage to find our way back to the hotel, and recognized where we were and where we'd been. I don't know how he does it.
